Ways to give
Contributions to our general fund help to finance the majority of operations at CMS, including rent, utilities, salaries, and our many educational, social, and social justice programs. Membership dues only cover 25% of our expenses, and your support enables us to grow and thrive as the kind of community we aspire to be.
High Holiday Appeal (Habonim/Nedivim/Chaverim)
Your generous participation in Habonim ($1250), Nedivim ($3600), and Chaverim ($5000) sends a powerful message about your support for our community and underwrites the wonderful programming at the synagogue.
Celebrations & Yahrzeits
A gift to Congregation Mount Sinai may be dedicated to the memory of a loved one or in honor of a living person. We hope you will consider making a donation to commemorate life cycle events such as a new baby, birthday, anniversary, wedding, or just because. CMS will send you a written acknowledgement of your gift, as well as a card to the designated individual or family informing them that you have made a generous contribution to the synagogue in memory or honor of your friend or relative.
Oneg and Kiddush Fund
It is customary to end Shabbat morning and Holiday services by joining together as a community to bless the wine (make kiddush) and the bread (make motzi), and to enjoy good food and company. This is referred to as “the kiddush.” Sponsoring this weekly community event is a wonderful way to celebrate a simcha or joy, mark a special moment in one’s life, or honor someone or commemorate a Yahrzeit. Sponsoring a kiddush helps the community know you and share important moments in your life. It is also a way to say thank you to your community.
Please contact the CMS office for more information.
Youth Programs and Scholarship Fund
Congregation Mount Sinai hosts a wide range of programs for children and teens, from Hebrew School to HaShomer HaTzair to BBYO. Your gift to the Youth Programs and Scholarship Fund ensures that children and teens have a rich and vibrant experience of Jewish life.
Rabbi’s Discretionary Fund
Donations to the Discretionary Fund enable our clergy to help community members in times of need and to support projects of special interest.
Outright Gifts of Appreciated Assets & Planned Giving
Assets that have appreciated in value and have been held for more than a year, such as stocks or real estate, can make wonderful gifts to Congregation Mount Sinai, with the benefit of additional tax savings for you. You may be able to deduct the fair market value of the asset you give to Congregation Mount Sinai and avoid all capital gains tax on the increased value. Thus, you may also want to consider donating real property not in use or purchased as an investment many years ago. And whether your assets are large or modest, there are options available that will enable you to include CMS in your estate planning The possibilities range from making CMS a beneficiary in your will to more complex arrangements such as charitable gift annuities and charitable remainder trusts that can create immediate tax benefits and retained income benefits for you.
